Straight answer: you do not paraglide in rain or in unsuitable wind. Safety always comes first — and when the weather does not cooperate the flight is not lost: it is rescheduled at no cost for the next day with safe conditions. If it rains on your booked date, you do not lose the experience; you simply move it.

Why the weather is in charge

Paragliding flies without an engine: what keeps the wing up is the behaviour of the wind and the atmosphere. That is what makes the flight silent and magical, and it is also why it depends entirely on the conditions of the day. It is not the instructor's preference — it is physics.

No serious flight happens in a hurry. Before any launch the instructor reads the sky, feels the wind on the ramp and decides whether conditions are inside the safe margin. If they are, we fly. If they are not, we wait or reschedule. That discipline is exactly what makes tandem flying so safe.

Rain, wind and visibility: when flying is off

  • Rain: water soaks and weighs down the wing, changes its behaviour and cuts visibility. Even light drizzle is reason enough not to launch, and approaching storm clouds mean postponing as a precaution.
  • Wind: too little makes launching hard; too much or gusty wind makes the flight unstable. Direction matters too — the wind must come in towards the ramp. Strong wind from the wrong side grounds us just as much as a gust.
  • Visibility: fog or low cloud over the ramp and the landing area compromise the reading of the airspace. Without clear visibility, we do not launch.

Weather in Niterói can change within hours. A closed-in morning often opens in the afternoon, so a postponement does not always mean another day — it is often just a few hours' wait at the ramp.

Free rescheduling: how it works

Here is the part that reassures people most: if conditions do not allow flying on your booked day, the flight is rescheduled at no cost. You pay nothing extra and you do not lose the experience — you simply pick the next available day with good weather together with the team.

The process is simple. Once it is clear there are no safe conditions, the team arranges the new slot with you on the spot, either for a different time the same day, when the weather promises to improve, or for another date that fits your schedule. If the flight was a gift or you are travelling, we align the new date with you.

On refunds: the core policy is free rescheduling. If you have a specific question about refunds in a particular case, confirm it directly with the team when booking, so there are no surprises.

How to know on the day

  • Confirmation with the team: on the day of the flight we are in contact to confirm conditions. If anything changes at the last minute, you are told before you travel.
  • Live conditions: the widget on our home page shows up-to-date wind and weather for the ramp area, which helps set realistic expectations for your slot.

Combining both — the experienced eye of the team and live data — makes it easy to see whether it is a day to fly, to wait a few hours or to rebook. The background to all this is in the best time of year to fly.

Tip: keep a spare day in your trip

If you are visiting and the flight is one of the highlights, follow the golden rule of people who have flown here for nearly two decades: do not leave it for the last day. If your only free day happens to be the rainy one, you have no margin to rebook within the trip. Travellers who allow two or three days almost always fly on one of them.

In practice, book for the beginning of your stay and keep the following days as backup. The tandem flight starts at R$ 379, from the Parque da Cidade ramp, with full equipment and CBVL-certified instructors. Plan with a spare day and the only job left is choosing the blue-sky morning.
