A cruise stop in Rio usually means a few hours ashore and a long list of options. Here is the honest answer about fitting in a flight: yes, it works — if you plan with margin. Allow roughly four to five hours in total and book in advance, and you can be gliding over Guanabara Bay and back on board with time to spare.

How much time you need

  • Getting there: from Pier Mauá or the city centre to Parque da Cidade in Niterói, by bridge or by ferry plus a short ride.
  • At the ramp: arrival, briefing, equipment, the flight itself (10 to 20 minutes in the air) and the landing in São Francisco.
  • Getting back: from the landing field to the port, again with slack for traffic.

The flight is the short part. What needs respect is the travel time on both sides, and the fact that the wind decides when you launch.

From the port to the ramp

Taxi, ride-hailing or private transfer over the Rio–Niterói bridge is the most direct and predictable option when you have a deadline. The car takes you door to door, and the bridge crossing itself has a fine view of the bay.

Ferry plus car is the scenic alternative: ferries leave Praça XV, in central Rio, for Arariboia or Charitas, and from the terminal it is a short ride to the ramp. Step by step in how to get to Parque da Cidade.

Why Niterói suits a tight schedule

  • Predictable timing: you agree a slot with us and the team organises around it. We operate from 7am to 5pm, and for cruise stops we always recommend the earliest slot possible.
  • Shorter queues: the ramp is less crowded than the busiest tourist sites, which matters when you are counting the minutes.
  • Support to fit the time: we know what "my ship leaves this afternoon" means, and we help plan the round trip.
  • We only fly in safe conditions. Safety always comes before the clock.
  • Free rescheduling: if the weather does not allow it, you do not lose the flight or the money.

What to bring

Comfortable clothes, closed shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses and a light jacket for the altitude. You do not need a camera: photos and video are included and delivered digitally right after the flight, so you can share them from the ship. Details in what to wear for paragliding.

A suggested shore itinerary

  1. Right after disembarking: leave Pier Mauá with the transfer already arranged. The earlier the better — less traffic and better flying conditions.
  2. At Parque da Cidade: short briefing, equipment, a few minutes to take in the view from the lookout, then the flight, with the landing in São Francisco.
  3. Lunch or the shoreline: if your margin allows, eat in São Francisco or stop along Niterói's waterfront.
  4. Back with slack: return to the port well before the deadline, with the photos already on your phone.

The flight itself is covered in your first tandem flight, step by step, and what you see from up there in seeing Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf from above.
